LAWRENCE -- The Commission on the Status of Women and the Emily Taylor Women's Resource Center seek nominations of outstanding University of Kansas women for annual awards that honor women students, faculty, staff and alumnae who have enriched and improved the campus community through their service, teaching or involvement.
Completed nominations are due by 5 p.m. Friday, March 7, in the Emily Taylor Women's Resource Center, 22 Strong Hall.
A tradition on the KU campus for more than 40 years, the awards will be presented at the KU Women's Recognition Program at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, in the Big 12 Room at the Kansas Union.
Nominators are encouraged to consider women of diverse backgrounds, disciplines, affiliations and experiences who have made significant contributions to the campus or the community. Individuals may nominate as many women as they wish.
Student award recipients receive stipends from the KU Women's Memorial Award fund. Student award categories are for outstanding achievement as an international woman, nontraditional student, athlete, leader, student in partnership (campus service) and student in community service.
The Sally Frost Mason award goes to an undergraduate woman in biological sciences who has demonstrated academic excellence and involvement in campus activities.
Nominees also are sought for an outstanding woman educator or staff member and for a pioneer -- a woman who has contributions of local or state significance.
Hall of Fame nominees may be student, faculty, staff and alumnae women who serve as role models for students, career women and community leaders.
