KU to honor Barton and Rush county high school seniors Feb. 26 at Great Bend

LAWRENCE -- Students from six Kansas high schools will be honored Wednesday, Feb. 26, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.

The students, seniors from Barton and Rush counties, will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 6:15 p.m. dinner program at The Club, formerly Golden Belt Country Club, 24th and Frey, Great Bend.

Honorees are listed below.

Stella Bentley, dean of libraries, will speak. Alumni Association representative Chris Lazzarino, managing editor of Kansas Alumni magazine, is in charge of award presentations.

The program will cost parents and alumni $10 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.

Mary King, Great Bend, is the site coordinator. Perry and Krista Smith, Great Bend, are the Barton County coordinators. Mary Barrow, LaCrosse, is the Rush County coordinator.

The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 85,600 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
