KU radio comedy show 'Right Between the Ears' coming to Emporia March 8

EMPORIA -- "Right Between the Ears," the award-winning comedy show produced by the University of Kansas' Kansas Public Radio, will present a live broadcast at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 8, from Beach Music Hall at Emporia State University.

The special broadcast is part of a weekend of Emporia events presented by Kansas Public Radio to celebrate the launch of KANH, a repeater station that rebroadcasts KPR programming in the Emporia area.

In addition to the performance of "Right Between the Ears," KPR will present a free live classical music broadcast from Beach Music Hall's Heath Auditorium, hosted by Rachel Hunter, from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, March 7.

Still in preparation at press time, the March 8 broadcast of "Right Between the Ears," previously known as "The Imagination Workshop," will feature a reprise of favorite bits from past shows, including sketches drawn from the show's recent CD release, "Critical Mess," as well as new material. Among the bits planned are such audience favorites as "Fishing with Dwayne," "The Antonio Banderas Show" and "Incompetents Hospital," plus commercial spoofs and topical take-offs.

Tickets for the Emporia broadcast of "Right Between the Ears" are $12 and are on sale at the ID Office on the first floor of the ESU Memorial Union. Tickets also may be ordered by phone at (620) 341- 5859.

"Right Between the Ears" has been produced at Kansas Public Radio since 1985. The show recently won a Crystal Award of Excellence for Best Writing (Humor) at the 2002 Communicator Awards. The series has received three Gold World Medals from the prestigious New York Festivals for Best Comedy Program and Best Writing, plus the festivals' Grand Prize for Entertainment Programs. "Right Between the Ears" is produced by KPR's Darrell Brogdon.
