KU student to be 'chancellor for a day'

LAWRENCE -- One University of Kansas student will get to trade places with the university's top executive for a day. Caroline "Callie" Knoll, a freshman in architecture and urban design from Omaha, Neb., will be KU chancellor the morning of Monday, Feb. 10.

Knoll won the opportunity to be chancellor for a day as part of the KU Student Senate's voter registration drive last fall. Every student who registered was entered in the contest, and the winner was chosen by drawing.

Feb. 10 will begin with Knoll and KU Chancellor Robert Hemenway both attending the chancellor's cabinet meeting from 7:30 to 9 a.m.

While Hemenway is attending Knoll's 9:30 a.m. art history class at the Spencer Museum of Art, Knoll will meet with Janet Murgia, executive vice chancellor for university relations; Jon Josserand, assistant for governmental relations; Marlin Rein, university director emeritus; and Theresa Klinkenberg, chief financial officer, for a legislative briefing.

After the legislative briefing, Knoll will meet with Mary Burg, executive assistant to the chancellor, to plan the schedule for the week in the chancellor's regular Monday morning meeting. At 11 a.m., she will meet with university architect Warren Corman to discuss building plans and visit construction sites on campus.

At noon, Knoll and Hemenway will meet to exchange notes and discuss the morning's activities.

Knoll is enrolled in 16 credit hours this semester. Her normal Monday schedule includes the art history class, a physics class from 12:30 to 1:20 p.m. and a composition and literature class from 1:30 to 2:20 p.m.
