ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Kansas Executive Vice Chancellor for University Relations Janet Murguia will be the featured speaker for the 10th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Symposium at the University of Michigan campus.
Murguia will speak at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, at Rackham Auditorium on the university campus. The symposium is sponsored by the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program.
Murguia is an active board member of the National Council of La Raza, the largest Hispanic advocacy organization in the United States. In April 2002, she was one of 13 women in academia chosen for Hispanic Business magazine's list of the "Elite 80" Hispanic businesswomen in the United States. In October 2002, Hispanic Business named her to its 2002 list of the nation's 100 "Most Influential Hispanics."
Murguia was the keynote speaker for the State of Kansas' 2002 Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration in the Topeka Capitol rotunda.
The Michigan event is open to the public. A reception will follow the speech.
