LAWRENCE -- Dawn Brown, designer for Columbia Pictures and graduate of the University of Kansas Department of Design will return to campus as a visiting artist for the popular Hallmark Symposium series. She will speak at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, at the Spencer Museum of Art, 1301 Mississippi St. Admission is free and open to the public.
Dawn Brown is a set designer who moved to Los Angeles after graduating from KU in 1991. Brown's feature film resume includes "Batman and Robin," "The X-Files," "End of Days," "Charlie's Angels," "A.I.," "Planet of the Apes," "Ocean's 11" and "Solaris." Her television projects include "SeaQuest DSV," "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman," "Once & Again" and "Crossing Jordan." Brown also is in production on the upcoming Tim Burton film "Big Fish."
Her work in the film and television industry has led to other creative projects, including comic books. Inspired to jump into comics after meeting legendary Batman creator Bob Kane while working on the 1997 film "Batman and Robin," Brown created "Little Red Hot," published by Image Comics. She also recently illustrated "Vampirella" for Harris Comics.
Now in its 20th year, the Hallmark Symposium is a course offered by the KU Department of Design, sponsored by an endowment from Hallmark Cards Inc. Each semester, seven creative and articulate designers, writers, artists and educators are invited to speak at the Spencer Museum of Art.
