LAWRENCE -- The University of Kansas Audio-Reader Network recently received a $10,000 grant from the Ethel and Raymond Rice Foundation.
This grant will be used to purchase more closed-circuit radios for blind and print-disabled listeners and to help underwrite costs of the Braille program schedule.
Audio-Reader provides closed-circuit radio broadcasts of current books, magazines, local newspapers and other printed materials to people who are unable to read standard print.
Audio-Reader's services are available free of charge. Thanks to the Rice Foundation grant, Audio-Reader will have enough closed-circuit radios available for new listeners and will be able to replace old radios that no longer function adequately.
"We feel extremely fortunate to receive this generous support from the Rice Foundation," said Janet Campbell, director of Audio-Reader. "Their contribution will help Audio-Reader share the gift of sight through sound with many individuals who rely on our services to stay connected to the world of print."
