LAWRENCE -- More than 25 University of Kansas sociology graduate and undergraduate students received awards for outstanding academic and teaching achievements in the department.

The KU Department of Sociology offered awards and scholarships during its 11th annual spring banquet in May. The banquet took place at the McCluggage Conference Room in Fraser Hall.

A number of graduate students received awards and scholarships totaling $11,500. The awards presented at the banquet were the E. Jackson Baur Award for Research and Study of Social Conflict and Conflict Resolution, the Carroll D. Clark Award for Teaching Excellence and the Carroll D. Clark Pre- and Post-MA Awards.

Sandra Albrecht, associate professor and director of undergraduate studies, and Jack Weller, assistant professor of sociology, presented the awards.

Students also were recognized for graduating with honors from the sociology department and being inducted into the Alpha Kappa Delta International Sociology Honor Society. Alpha Kappa Delta was established in 1920 at the University of Southern California to promote an interest in the study of sociology, research of social problems, and other social and intellectual activities that lead to improvement in the human condition.
