LAWRENCE -- Information on events during the dedication of the Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas is available at (785) 812-DOLE.
The automated hotline, which will be updated at least once per week, provides a day-by-day schedule with times, locations and brief details of each event. Parking and shuttle bus information will be available beginning next week. In addition, during the three-day dedication, July 20 through 22, any last-minute changes in event locations will be announced on the hotline.
The phone line also includes the toll free number of the Lawrence Visitor Information Center, (888) 529-5267, where callers can find information about lodging in Lawrence during the dedication.
Laura Lorson, a reporter and producer for Kansas Public Radio, recorded the message for the line.
The three-day dedication festivities will include a military vehicle display and fashion show; a re-created USO-style performance; an evening of dancing to the Glenn Miller Orchestra; a "KU Goes to War" panel and a "Memory Tent" featuring dozens of Medal of Honor recipients, Tuskegee Airmen, Navajo Codetalkers, Holocaust survivors and others; and an outdoor concert by the 312th Army Band as well as the formal dedication. Among the dignitaries attending the events are former Presidents Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw, author of "The Greatest Generation."
