LAWRENCE -- Sara L. Trower, assistant attorney general for the Missouri Attorney General's Office, will join the University of Kansas as associate general counsel for the Lawrence campus.
The announcement was made today by James Pottorff, KU general counsel. Trower's appointment is effective June 19.
"Sara Trower brings 15 years of highly successful litigation experience in state and federal courts and before administrative agencies," Pottorff said.
"Her previous practice in employment discrimination, civil rights, constitutional, tort and administrative law prepares her especially well for the wide spectrum of legal matters handled daily by the General Counsel's Office."
Trower has worked since 1987 in the Missouri Attorney General's Office, including 11 years in the Litigation Division, where she served as trial team leader and senior litigation counsel. She also served as counsel in the office's divisions of Governmental Affairs and Criminal Appeals.
Trower earned a bachelor's degree in history and economics from William Woods College in Fulton, Mo., in 1984 and a juris doctorate from the University of Missouri School of Law in 1987, where she was on the dean's list.
Trower was selected from a field of 100 applicants for the position vacated May 2 by Barbara McCloud, who left the university for a position with the law firm of Snell & Wilmer in Phoenix.
