KU chancellor to give testimony to Senate Ways and Means Subcommittee today

 •UPDATE: Click to view text of Hemenway's testimony WHAT: University of Kansas Chancellor Robert Hemenway will testify this afternoon before the Senate Ways and Means Subcommittee on Higher Education.

The chancellor will urge legislators to free the university from onerous state regulations so that KU can operate more efficiently and in the same way as Washburn University and the state's 19 community colleges.

The chancellor also will discuss the proposed state budget's impact on:

 • the KU Medical Center and the possiblity of more layoffs
 • KU's new Hoglund Brain Imaging Center in Kansas City, Kan.
 • the Medical Student Loan/Scholarship Program designed to provide an increased supply of primary care physicians to underserved areas of the state

KU's testimony will follow Kansas State University's.
