KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- What's the value of a college degree? Why choose KU? University of Kansas officials and admissions representatives will do their best to answer those questions and more Thursday night at a free event for high school students from 10 Wyandotte County high schools.
KU will host a "KU in KCK Night" from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at Sumner Academy, 801 Oakland. Students from Bishop Ward, Bonner Springs, J.C. Harmon, Washington, Piper, Wyandotte, F.L. Schlagle, and Turner high schools and Sumner and Marantha academies have been invited. Parents and friends are welcome.
Two Wyandotte County natives, Janet Murguia and Deryl Wynn, will be featured speakers. Murguia is KU's executive vice chancellor for university relations. A former deputy assistant to the president of the United States, Murguia graduated from J.C. Harmon High School before earning her law degree from KU. In October, Hispanic Business magazine named her one of the "100 most influential Hispanics" in the nation. Wynn serves as a member of the Kansas Board of Regents. A former Army captain, Wynn is a shareholder in the law firm of McAnany, Van Cleave & Phillips.
The evening's entertainment will include door prizes and free photos with KU mascot Baby Jay. Information will be available about KU academic programs, admissions and scholarships, financial aid, housing and student services.
