LAWRENCE -- "Right Between the Ears," the popular sketch comedy show produced by Kansas Public Radio at the University of Kansas, has received a Golden Reel Award from the National Federation of Community Broadcasters.
The NFCB Community Radio Program Awards celebrate the best station-based and independent productions that exemplify the outstanding and creative use of radio. The Golden Reel, Silver Reel and Special Merit awards were presented at the Annual Community Radio Conference in San Francisco on March 21. "Right Between the Ears" won the Golden Reel in the category Best Music/Entertainment (Local).
"Right Between the Ears" (formerly known as "The Imagination Workshop") has been produced at Kansas Public Radio since 1985. Other awards won by the series include three Gold World Medals from the New York Festivals for Best Comedy Program and Best Writing, plus the festivals' Grand Prize for Entertainment Programs; a Crystal Award of Excellence for Best Writing (Humor) at the 2002 Communicator Awards; and three Gold Program Awards from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting for Best Live Entertainment and Outstanding Technical Achievement. The producer and principal writer for "Right Between the Ears" is KPR's Darrell Brogdon.
The next "Right Between the Ears" performances will be at 5 and 8 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at Liberty Hall in Lawrence. The 8 p.m. show will be broadcast live on KPR stations. Tickets are on sale at Liberty Hall and Ticketmaster outlets.
