Wichita campus chronic illness lecture series to focus on cerebrovascular disease

WICHITA -- "Different Strokes: A Look at Cerebrovascular Disease" is the next topic for the "Chronic Illness, Acute Answers" Live & Learn lecture series at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita.

The free, public lecture will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, March 24, in the Roberts Amphitheater, 1010 N. Kansas, Wichita. Reservations are requested; please call (316) 293-2643.

A person may suffer symptoms of a stroke when blood cannot get to vital brain tissue as a result of an obstruction or rupture of a blood vessel in the brain. During the March 24 lecture, Dr. Andrew Massey, associate professor of internal medicine at the KU School of Medicine-Wichita, will discuss recognizing symptoms of stroke, knowing when to seek treatment and modifying such high-risk behaviors as smoking or drinking excessively.

Massey's lecture is the third in a yearlong, multimedia, educational series titled "Chronic Illness, Acute Answers." The series has been made possible through Sound Partners for Community Health, a program of the Benton Foundation, and supported by a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Local Sound Partners are the KU School of Medicine-Wichita, KMUW 89-FM and the Medical Society of Sedgwick County.
