LAWRENCE -- The 76th conference of the Kansas History Teachers Association will occur Friday, April 4, and Saturday, April 5, at the Kansas Union at the University of Kansas.
The annual event brings together teachers of history and scholars, students and others interested in promoting history. The conferences are an avenue for communication among history teachers at Kansas high schools, junior colleges, colleges and universities. They also provide a forum for college students to present scholarly papers and receive cash prizes.
Conference highlights will include talks by Bill Tuttle, KU professor of American studies, on "Age, Culture and History: Children's History as the Gateway to American History," and Sherrie Tucker, KU assistant professor of American studies, on "Working the Swing Shift: 'All-Girl' Bands of the 1940s."
Participants may choose from among seven concurrent sessions on topics that include religious beliefs, gender, and nationalism in Europe; African immigrants in Kansas; essays from Kansas History magazine; individuals and communities in Kansas history; and U.S./Mexico/Cuba foreign policy.
