KU announces homecoming theme, students serving on steering committee

LAWRENCE -- The University of Kansas Homecoming Steering Committee announces "Jayhawk Generations: Bringing Back the Classics" as the theme for the university's annual homecoming week, Oct. 12 through 18.

Homecoming week will feature activities for students, faculty, alumni and the local community, including such traditional events as a pep rally, a 5K walk/run, Spirit Sing and Jayhawk "Can"struction. The homecoming parade will close out festivities on Oct. 18.

"We are very excited for this year's homecoming," said Elissa Hudson, Pittsburg junior and committee co-director. "This year we are striving for more overall involvement from students, community members and alumni -- we want everyone to show how proud they are to be a Jayhawk."

During the week, students and Lawrence community members will be able to showcase their interpretations of "Jayhawk Generations: Bringing Back the Classics" through a variety of activities.

The Homecoming Steering Committee organizes the event and is working to make it bigger and better than before, Hudson said. The committee includes students and faculty advisers.

"The steering committee is making great progress on what will be an outstanding homecoming week," said Richard Johnson, homecoming adviser and dean of students.
