LAWRENCE -- For the 54th year, environmental engineers will convene in Lawrence in the spring for a conference addressing projects and issues of timely interest. The conference, focusing on water issues, will include a presentation on water security by Jonathan Herrmann, deputy director of the National Center for Homeland Security Research, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The Environmental Engineering Conference is set for Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at the Holiday Inn Holidome in Lawrence. Topics will include water policy priorities in Kansas, nutrient trading as a water-quality solution, harmful cyanobacteria water blooms, regional aquifers, the "actiflo" process, sustainable urban drainage systems, ozone and regional haze, alternative final cover systems for landfills, and case studies from Dodge City and Hutchinson.
The conference will provide 6.5 contact hours of instruction for recertification. Exhibitors of products, equipment and services will be on hand, and presentations will be available in a printed proceedings format following the conference.
The conference is sponsored by the University of Kansas Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering and by KU Continuing Education.
