Statement by KU chancellor re: verdict in Shannon Martin murder trial

University of Kansas Chancellor Robert Hemenway today issued the following statement following the two convictions yesterday in the May 13, 2001, murder of KU student Shannon Martin in Golfito, Costa Rica.

"Shannon Martin's mother, Jeanette Stauffer, has been tireless in her efforts to see this tragic case brought to justice. The thoughts and prayers of the KU family have been with her throughout this ordeal. Shannon was a gifted student who touched many lives at KU. No verdict can atone for her death, but she will never be forgotten by the university, her friends or her family."
