LAWRENCE -- A University of Kansas senior has won the 2003-04 Upsilon Pi Epsilon Association for Computing Machinery Student Chapter Scholarship Award. Babak Yeganeh, a Lawrence senior in computer science, is one of only two students from around the globe to win the honor.
Yeganeh was selected for the honor through his outstanding academic record and his involvement in the Association for Computing Machinery and computer science honor society Upsilon Pi Epsilon student chapters at KU. He will receive $1,000 and a certificate of commendation.
Yeganeh is the son of Ali and Giti Yeganeh and is a Lawrence High School graduate.
Yeganeh, who plans to graduate in December, is very involved in the KU Association for Computing Machinery chapter, serving as the organization's chair. He has helped build the organization's membership from a handful of students a few years ago to roughly 50 members this semester. He also is president of Upsilon Pi Epsilon. Membership is offered only to students in the top 5 percent of their class.
Yeganeh helped coordinate a computing competition through ACM and UPE this semester at KU. The event will help students qualify for the ACM regional competition.
Last year Yeganeh received honorable mention in the UPE ACM scholarship process.
