LAWRENCE -- Students from five Kansas high schools will be honored Wednesday, Oct. 22, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.
A total of 234 seniors from Shawnee Mission high schools will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 7 p.m. program at the Jewish Community Campus of Greater Kansas City, 5801 W. 115th St., Overland Park.
Honorees are listed below.
Bill Fuerst, dean of the School of Business, will speak. Kansas Alumni Association representative Kelly Norris, executive assistant for external programs, is in charge of award presentations.
The program is free to all attendees. A reception will follow.
Joe Kurtzman, Overland Park, will serve as the site coordinator. Chairs for the program are Carly Adams, Overland Park, for Shawnee Mission East High School; Joseph M. Nielsen, Shawnee, for Shawnee Mission North High School; Dr. Robert Thompson, Overland Park, for Shawnee Mission Northwest High School; Dr. Kathy MacNaughton, Overland Park, for Shawnee Mission South High School; and Melissa Boos Nielson, Shawnee, for Shawnee Mission West High School.
The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 86,368 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
