LAWRENCE -- The University of Kansas Alumni Association and KU Endowment Association on Oct. 27 will honor a Clay Center KU alumna for her service to the university.
Kansas Alumni Association President and Chief Executive Officer Fred B. Williams will present Lucy Mulroney of Clay Center with the Mildred Clodfelter Alumni Award to recognize her longtime support of the Kansas Honors Program.
The presentation will be part of the Kansas Honors Program dinner at Manhattan Country Club. Ninety-three high school seniors from Clay, Pottawatomie and Riley counties will be honored at the event.
Mulroney has been a local coordinator for the Kansas Honors Program since 1976. She earned a fine arts degree from KU in 1947. Following college, Mulroney was an elementary art teacher in the Clay County public schools until her retirement.
The Alumni Association created the Mildred Clodfelter Alumni Award in 1986 to honor volunteers who serve as KU ambassadors in their communities. Clodfelter earned a bachelor's degree from KU in 1941 and worked at the university for 47 years, 42 at the Alumni Association. She retired in 1986 and lives in Lawrence.
Since 1971, the alumni and endowment associations, with the help of more than 160 alumni volunteers statewide, have sponsored Kansas Honors Program events to honor the top 10 percent of Kansas high school seniors.
