KU Chancellors Club scholars named for 2003-04 academic year

LAWRENCE -- Sixteen University of Kansas freshmen have been named Chancellors Club scholars for 2003-04. The Chancellors Club, the major-donor organization at the Kansas University Endowment Association, finances the renewable scholarships, which recognize National Merit finalists who have outstanding high school records. Thirteen students from Kansas high schools and three from out of state have been added to the roster of Chancellors Club scholars this year.

The Chancellors Club has awarded a total of 212 scholarships since 1979. The new scholars were recognized at the club's 26th annual meeting Friday night in the Kansas Union ballroom.

Kansas recipients for 2003-04 are: Andrew Campbell, Wichita; Alex Chavez, Wichita; Abigail East, Emporia; Amanda Ellwood, Leawood; Abbie Gilmore, Scammon; Mackenzie Hanson, Kansas City; Daniel Hogan, Leawood; Audra Jenkins, Admire; Justin Klinger, Overland Park; Jill Koehler, McPherson; Mark Mattione, Leawood; Paul Shipley, Olathe; and Lucas Thompson, Lawrence.

Out-of-state recipients are: Sarah Bueltmann, Manchester, Mo.; Paul Karrer, Omaha, Neb.; and Emily Moisan, St. Charles, Mo.

SEDGWICK COUNTY
From Wichita
Andrew Campbell, son of Kevin and Phyllis Campbell, graduated from Wichita East High School and will major in computer engineering.

Alex Chavez, son of Steve and Elaine Chavez, graduated from Kapaun-Mount Carmel High School. He is interested in neurology and psychology and plans to fulfill requirements for medical school.

CHEROKEE COUNTY
From Scammon
Abbie Gilmore, daughter of Tina Wydick, graduated from Columbus Unified High School and will major in communication studies.

DOUGLAS COUNTY
From Lawrence
Lucas Thompson, son of Todd and Caprice Thompson, graduated from Free State High School. He plans to major in history, English, political science and Spanish.

JOHNSON COUNTY
From Leawood
Amanda Ellwood, daughter of Bill and Penny Ellwood, graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School. She has not yet decided on a major but is interested in education and Spanish.

Daniel Hogan, son of Patrick and Jane Hogan, graduated from Blue Valley North High School. He plans to major in physics and computer science.

Mark Mattione, son of Vincent and Marilyn Mattione, graduated from Rockhurst High School. He will major in computer science and computer engineering.

From Olathe
Paul Shipley, son of Daniel and Mary Jo Shipley, graduated from Olathe South High School and will major in anthropology.

From Overland Park
Justin Klinger, son of Ron Klinger and Teri Sullivan, graduated from Olathe East High School and will major in computer engineering.

Mackenzie Hanson, daughter of Judi and Jeffrey Hanson, graduated from Shawnee Mission South High School. She is majoring in biochemistry and plans to fulfill requirements for medical school.

LYON COUNTY
From Admire
Audra Jenkins, daughter of Renee and Clayton Jenkins, graduated from Emporia High School and is majoring in film studies.

From Emporia
Abigail East, daughter of Timothy and Julie East, graduated from Emporia High School and is majoring in chemistry.

MCPHERSON COUNTY
From McPherson
Jill Koehler, daughter of Roger and Joyce Koehler, graduated from McPherson High School and is majoring in biochemistry.

MISSOURI
From Manchester
Sarah Bueltmann, daughter of Kris and Heidi Bueltmann, graduated from Parkway West High School. She will double major in architecture and German.

From St. Charles
Emily Moisan, daughter of Jeffrey and Kathleen Moisan, graduated from Duchesne High School and will major in architecture.

NEBRASKA
From Omaha
Paul Karrer, son of Lee and Katie Karrer, graduated from Creighton Preparatory School and is majoring in civil engineering.
