LAWRENCE -- Sixteen University of Kansas freshmen have been named Chancellors Club scholars for 2003-04. The Chancellors Club, the major-donor organization at the Kansas University Endowment Association, finances the renewable scholarships, which recognize National Merit finalists who have outstanding high school records. Thirteen students from Kansas high schools and three from out of state have been added to the roster of Chancellors Club scholars this year.
The Chancellors Club has awarded a total of 212 scholarships since 1979. The new scholars were recognized at the club's 26th annual meeting Friday night in the Kansas Union ballroom.
Kansas recipients for 2003-04 are: Andrew Campbell, Wichita; Alex Chavez, Wichita; Abigail East, Emporia; Amanda Ellwood, Leawood; Abbie Gilmore, Scammon; Mackenzie Hanson, Kansas City; Daniel Hogan, Leawood; Audra Jenkins, Admire; Justin Klinger, Overland Park; Jill Koehler, McPherson; Mark Mattione, Leawood; Paul Shipley, Olathe; and Lucas Thompson, Lawrence.
Out-of-state recipients are: Sarah Bueltmann, Manchester, Mo.; Paul Karrer, Omaha, Neb.; and Emily Moisan, St. Charles, Mo.
SEDGWICK COUNTY
Alex Chavez, son of Steve and Elaine Chavez, graduated from Kapaun-Mount Carmel High School. He is interested in neurology and psychology and plans to fulfill requirements for medical school.

Daniel Hogan, son of Patrick and Jane Hogan, graduated from Blue Valley North High School. He plans to major in physics and computer science.

Mackenzie Hanson, daughter of Judi and Jeffrey Hanson, graduated from Shawnee Mission South High School. She is majoring in biochemistry and plans to fulfill requirements for medical school.
