KU to honor high school seniors from 3 southeast Kansas counties Sept. 29

LAWRENCE -- Students from 16 Kansas high schools will be honored Monday, Sept. 29, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.

The students, seniors from Butler, Elk and Greenwood counties, will meet for a 6:30 p.m. dinner reception, where they will be named Kansas Honor Scholars. The program will be at Butler County Community College Student Union Cafeteria, 901 S. Haverhill, El Dorado.

Honorees are listed below.

Andrea Norris, director of the Spencer Museum of Art at KU, will speak at the Sept. 29 program. Kansas Alumni Association representative Jen Alderdice, director of student programs, is in charge of award presentations.

The program will cost parents and alumni $12 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.

Mike Coash, El Dorado, is the site coordinator. Scott Ennis, also of El Dorado, will serve as Butler County coordinator. Joan Gryder and Jerry Handley, both of Eureka, will serve as coordinators for Elk and Greenwood counties.

The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 86,368 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
