KU to honor high school seniors from 3 Kansas counties Sept. 29

LAWRENCE -- Students from 10 Kansas high schools will be honored Thursday, Oct. 9, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.

A total of 63 seniors from high schools in Ellis, Rooks, Russell and Trego counties will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 6:30 p.m. dinner reception at Hays High School, 2300 E. 13th St., Hays.

Honorees are listed below.

Janet Murguia, executive vice chancellor of university relations, will speak. Kansas Alumni Association representative Chris Lazzarino, managing editor of Kansas Alumni magazine, is in charge of award presentations.

The program will cost parents and alumni $8.50 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.

Fred and Sheila Brening, Hays, will serve as the site and Ellis County coordinators. Tom and Cassi Nuckols, Plainville, will serve as the Rooks County coordinators. Nancy Lane, Russell, will serve as the Russell County coordinator, and Jim and Kathy Cleland, WaKeeney, will serve as the Trego County coordinators.

The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 86,368 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
