KU to hold International Career Conference for area high schoolers Oct. 2

LAWRENCE -- During the International Career Conference Oct. 2 in the Kansas Union at the University of Kansas, area high school students will learn that they can have international careers without leaving Kansas.

Former Lt. Gov. Gary Sherrer will be among the speakers who will promote the region as a global marketplace in which companies, state government and other entities with stakes in the international arena operate every day. Sherrer will speak on "Taking the Midwest to the World: A Trend, Not a Fad" at 11 a.m. in the Kansas Union ballroom.

Representatives from Pinnacle Technologies and Gold Bank; Harland Priddle, former Kansas secretary of agriculture; and KU staff members are among the speakers scheduled to talk to more than 250 high school students from Lawrence, Olathe, Overland Park and Perry-Lecompton.

"We believe that the International Career Conference will succeed in promoting the region as a springboard for sending students on challenging and exciting international careers," said Diana Carlin, dean of the KU Graduate School and International Programs. "By utilizing skills learned at KU, a wealth of international opportunities are available to current and future KU students throughout Kansas and in the greater Kansas City metro area."
