LAWRENCE -- "Right Between the Ears," produced by Kansas Public Radio at the University of Kansas, has been named a national winner in the 2003 Silver Microphone Awards. The popular sketch-comedy series won the top prize for Best Audio Program-Entertainment.
The Silver Microphone Awards, now in their 19th year, are designed to select the best local and regional radio commercials, programs and Web sites created by the more than 40,000 advertising agencies, audio production companies and radio stations in the United States. Entries in the 38 categories were judged for creativity, production quality, writing, talent and overall effectiveness. The winners in the 2003 competition are among the best radio commercials, programs and Web sites produced in the United States last year. "Right Between the Ears" previously won a Silver Microphone Award for Best Audio Program in 2002 and Best Writing in 2000.
"Right Between the Ears" is produced by KPR's Darrell Brogdon, who also serves as principal writer. Cast members include David Greusel, John Jessup, Andi Meyer, Jim Moore, Kip Niven, Roberta Solomon, Rick Tamblyn and Teri Wilder. Music for the show is performed by Bill Crahan, with sound effects provided by Mary Ellen Kriegh.
"Right Between the Ears" is set to open the 2003-04 season with two performances at 5 and 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at Union Station, 30 W. Pershing Road, in Kansas City, Mo. Tickets are on sale at the Union Station box office or by calling (816) 460-2020.
