LAWRENCE -- University of Kansas Chancellor Robert Hemenway and Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor David Shulenburger each will make presentations at the annual Faculty-Staff Convocation at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, in 110 Budig Hall.

Hemenway will discuss changes in the world in the two years since the terrorist attacks. He also will address how, with the help of dedicated faculty and staff, KU can overcome budget cuts to continue its drive to become a top university.

In his remarks, Shulenburger will discuss the investment of tuition enhancement revenue into focus areas that were identified in Initiative 2001, KU's strategic plan, and the report "The Neglected R," the need for a writing revolution.

Shulenburger also will acknowledge recipients of this year's distinguished teaching awards and the awards for distinguished teaching and librarianship established by former Chancellor Gene Budig and his wife, Gretchen. Shulenburger then will announce the recipients of the Provost's Award for Leadership and International Education, while James Roberts, interim vice provost for research, will introduce recipients of the Higuchi/Endowment Research Achievement Awards.

Also speaking at convocation will be Lloyd Sponholtz, associate professor of history and president of the faculty council.

Following the convocation, a reception for faculty and staff will take place in the Strong Hall rotunda.
