KU multicultural success conference brings information, contacts to students

LAWRENCE -- The 2003 Multicultural Student Success Conference at the University of Kansas will bring renowned mentor and student advocate Rickey Jones to the KU campus for an afternoon of information and motivation.

The conference will begin at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, in the Kansas Union ballroom. Students will have the opportunity to participate in informative workshops, meet members and leaders of cultural and ethnic student organizations, visit with multicultural faculty and staff members and network with corporate representatives offering internship information.

Jones, who received his juris doctor from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, will present the conference's keynote address. Jones has worked as a college administrator, high school dropout program coordinator, minority student program director and college athletic coach. He recently served as mentor for T.J. Ford, this year's seventh pick in the NBA draft.

The primary purpose of the Multicultural Student Success Conference is to provide a nurturing and instructional environment for KU multicultural students. The conference is designed to encourage participants to become involved in their academic achievement, leadership development and career exploration early in their college experience.

Members of traditionally underrepresented ethnic minority groups are encouraged to participate.
