KU names search committee for Spencer Museum of Art director

LAWRENCE -- David Shulenburger, provost and executive vice chancellor at the University of Kansas, has announced the committee that will conduct a nationwide search for the director of the Spencer Museum of Art at KU.

Charles Eldredge, distinguished professor of the history of art, will chair the search committee. The members are Bill Carswell, associate dean and chair of architecture administration, and former chair of the Lawrence Arts Commission; Carol Ann Carter, professor of art; Steve Goddard, professor and senior curator at the Spencer Museum of Art; Gunda Hiebert, incoming president of Friends of the Spencer Museum of Art advisory board; Richard Klocke, exhibit designer at the Spencer Museum of Art; and Linda Stone-Ferrier, professor and chair of history of art.

The search committee is finalizing the position announcement, which will be posted on the provost's office Web site, http://www.ku.edu/~provost/. The closing date is Aug. 15.

"The Spencer is one of America's foremost university art museums, with responsibilities for education, scholarly research and outreach on campus, nationally and internationally," said Shulenburger. "I am confident that the individuals who have agreed to serve on the search committee realize the Spencer's importance to all of its constituents and will identify and recruit candidates of a stature to match the importance of our museum."
