LAWRENCE -- Students from 18 Kansas high schools will be honored Monday, April 19, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.
A total of 59 seniors from high schools in Cheyenne, Decatur, Gove, Logan, Rawlins, Sheridan, Sherman, Thomas and Wallace counties will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 6:30 p.m. dinner reception at Northwest Kansas Educational Service Center, 703 W. Second St., Oakley.
Honorees are listed below.
David Shulenburger, KU provost and executive vice chancellor, will speak. Kansas Alumni Association representative Kelly Norris, executive assistant for external programs, is in charge of award presentations.
The program will cost parents and alumni $10 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.
Wade Park, Oakley, will serve as the coordinator for the site and for Gove, Logan and Sheridan counties. Mike and Brenda Day, St. Francis, will serve as the Cheyenne County coordinators. Kurt Vollertsen, Oberlin, will serve as the Decatur County coordinator. Charles and Connie Peckham, Atwood, will serve as the Rawlins County coodinators. Perry and Janet Warren, Goodland, will serve as the Sherman County coordinators, and Sharon Steele, Colby, will serve as the coordinator for Thomas and Wallace counties.
The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 89,113 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
