Statement by chancellor on death of KU senior Grant Reser

University of Kansas Chancellor Robert Hemenway made the following statement today in response to the death Saturday of Grant Reser, 23, a senior from Topeka. Reser died from an infection related to Burkitt's lymphoma cancer. He was a KU student in spring 2004 when diagnosed with cancer. He was enrolled to resume studies at KU in spring 2005. At age 3 in 1985, Reser received a pediatric heart transplant at the KU Medical Center, the first child in Kansas and the 12th in the world to undergo such an operation.

“ I am saddened to learn of the death of Grant Reser. On behalf of the university, I would like to extend our deepest condolences to his parents, family and friends for the tragic loss of such a young man who exhibited such a brave spirit in the face of so many challenges.”
