University of Kansas Chancellor Robert Hemenway made the following statement
today in response to the death Saturday of Grant Reser, 23, a senior from Topeka.
Reser died from an infection related to Burkitt's lymphoma cancer. He was a
KU student in spring 2004 when diagnosed with cancer. He was enrolled to resume
studies at KU in spring 2005. At age 3 in 1985, Reser received a pediatric
heart transplant at the KU Medical Center, the first child in Kansas and the
12th in the world to undergo such an operation.
“ I am saddened to learn of the death of Grant Reser.
On behalf of the university, I would like to extend our deepest condolences
to his parents, family and friends
for the tragic loss of such a young man who exhibited such a brave spirit in
the face of so many challenges.”
