University of Kansas Chancellor Robert E. Hemenway made the following statement
in response to the death Dec. 23 of Christopher Joseph Martell, 18, a freshman
from Kansas City, Kan. Martell, who died in Kansas City, Kan., was a 2004 graduate
of Sumner Academy for the Arts and Sciences and was enrolled in the College
of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the School of Engineering at KU. He was a
resident of McCollum Hall. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday
at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Kansas City, Kan. Visitation
will be 5 to 9 p.m. and Rosary will be said at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Joseph A.
Butler and Son Funeral Home, 19th and Minnesota, Kansas City, Kan.
" On behalf of the entire KU community, I want to express my profound sorrow at the death of Christopher Martell. We are filled with great sadness at the word of this tragic loss of such a bright young man, and we offer our condolences to his family and friends."
