LAWRENCE -- The University of Kansas has announced the names of more than 5,100 students who received scholarships from private gifts during the fall 2004 semester.
Students on the Lawrence and Medical Center campuses have received more than
8,400 scholarships totaling more than $10.3 million from funds administered
by the Kansas University Endowment Association. The average amount of scholarship
support received per recipient was nearly $1,400. The largest single amount
awarded was $9,800. Students often receive more than one scholarship.
"
We are proud to offer so many merit and need-based scholarships to KU students," KU
Chancellor Robert Hemenway said. "Scholarships allow us to recruit the
most talented students and offer opportunities to students who might not otherwise
be able to afford a college education. We are grateful for the generosity of
KU friends and alumni, who make these scholarships possible.”
Private funding accounts for 100 percent of scholarship dollars awarded by
KU. The KU Endowment Association, an independent, nonprofit fund-raising and
fund-management organization, manages these funds for KU.
A listing of students and the scholarships they received is available at www.ur.ku.edu/News/04N/DecNews/Dec29/directory.html.
