LAWRENCE -- Michael Fellman, an internationally recognized Civil War historian and author of several books on abolitionism and the coming of the Civil War, will give a public lecture at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, in the Simons Media Room at the Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics on the University of Kansas West Campus.
Fellman's talk is titled "John Brown's Body: Terrorism and the Construction of American Society."
Since Fellman received his Ph.D. in history at Northwestern University in 1969, he has been a professor of history at Simon Fraser University in Canada. He has written six books, including "Inside War: The Guerrilla Conflict in Missouri During the American Civil War" in 1989, "Citizen Sherman: A Life of William Tecumseh Sherman" in 1995 and "The Making of Robert E. Lee" in 2000.
Fellman's appearance is sponsored by KU's Dole Institute of Politics, the KU American studies program, the KU history department, Spencer Research Library at KU, the Lawrence Sesquicentennial Commission and the Lawrence Convention and Visitors Bureau.
