KU to honor high school seniors from 3 southwestern Kansas counties Feb. 11

LAWRENCE -- Students from five Kansas high schools will be honored Wednesday, Feb. 11, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.

A total of 54 seniors, seniors from high schools in Finney, Hamilton and Kearny counties, will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 6:30 p.m. dinner program at the Southwind Country Club, South Star Route, Garden City.

Honorees are listed below.

Michael M. Swann, associate dean of the School of Architecture and Urban Design, will speak. KU Medical Center Executive Vice Chancellor Donald Hagen will greet attendees. Kansas Alumni Association representative Carolyn Barnes, director of the Kansas Honors Program, is in charge of award presentations.

The honored seniors will be the guests of the KU Alumni Association. The dinner is free for the honored seniors and $15 for parents, alumni and guests. The program following dinner is free for anyone wishing to attend.

Rebecca Crotty and Kim Shaddix, Garden City, serve as coordinators for Finney and Kearny counties. Rob Gale Jr., Syracuse, is the coordinator for Hamilton County.

The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 89,113 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
