KU continuing education offers symposium on heart failure treatment

KANSAS CITY, Kan. --Diagnosis and treatment of congestive heart failure and sudden cardiac death will be the focus of the second annual Symposium on Heart Failure and Cardiomyopathy on Saturday, April 3, at the Muehlebach Hotel in Kansas City, Mo.

The symposium is intended for cardiologists, surgeons, internists, family medicine and internal medicine physicians, and critical care and cardiovascular nurse practitioners and nurse clinicians.

The symposium is sponsored by Mid-America Cardiology at the University of Kansas Hospital and University of Kansas Medical Center Continuing Education in Kansas City, Kan.

Topics will include medical management of congestive heart failure, BNP values, pacing devices, neurohormonal therapies, implantable defibrillators, data reporting from an outpatient-based national registry, thoracic impedance, nesiritide and invasive monitoring, mechanical support devices and surgical techniques.

Continuing education credit will be available for physicians and nurses.

In addition to presenters from the KU Medical Center, guest faculty represent the Heart Failure Clinic of the Texas Heart Institute in Houston; the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas; and the Kaufman Center for Heart Failure in Cleveland, Ohio.
