RELATED STORY: Dave and Evelyn Pistole of Pittsburg to be honored for 17 years of service to KU
LAWRENCE -- Students from six Kansas high schools will be honored Monday, March 15, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.
A total of 54 seniors from high schools in Crawford County will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 6:30 p.m. dinner reception at Pittsburg State University, Crimson and Gold Room, Jack Overman Student Center, Pittsburg.
Honorees are listed below.
During the ceremony, an award will be made posthumously to Megan Mallatt, who died from injuries sustained in a car accident Feb. 15. Her award will be given to her parents, Brenda and Keith Mallatt.
Jerry Bailey, director of the Institute for Educational Research and Public Service in the KU School of Education, will speak. Kansas Alumni Association representative Fred B. Williams, president and CEO of the Kansas Alumni Association, is in charge of award presentations.
The program will cost parents and alumni $9 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.
Nancy Hoff Scott, Pittsburg, will serve as the site coordinator. Rodney and Karen Odgers, Pittsburg, will serve as the Crawford County coordinators.
The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 89,113 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
