RELATED STORY: KU to honor 54 high school seniors from Crawford County at Pittsburg March 15
LAWRENCE -- The Kansas Alumni Association and the Kansas University Endowment Association on March 15 will honor a Pittsburg University of Kansas alumnus and his wife for their service to KU.
Fred B. Williams, Kansas Alumni Association president and CEO, will give Dave and Evelyn Pistole of Pittsburg the Mildred Clodfelter Alumni Award to recognize their longtime support of the Kansas Honors Program.
The presentation will be part of the Kansas Honors Program dinner at Pittsburg State University. Fifty-four high school seniors from Crawford County will be honored at the event.
The Pistoles served as local coordinators for the Kansas Honors Program from 1985 to 2001. Dave is a 1973 graduate of the KU School of Pharmacy. Dave and Evelyn own the Medicine Shoppe. Dave is on the advisory board for KU's School of Pharmacy and is a life member of the Kansas Alumni Association. The Pistoles have two sons, Sean and T.C., and a daughter, Ann, who plans to graduate from KU in May.
The Alumni Association created the Mildred Clodfelter Alumni Award in 1986 to honor volunteers who serve as KU ambassadors in their communities. Clodfelter earned a bachelor's degree from KU in 1941 and worked at the university for 47 years, 42 at the Alumni Association. Clodfelter retired in 1986 and lives in Lawrence.
Since 1971, the Kansas Alumni and KU Endowment associations, with the help of more than 160 alumni volunteers statewide, have sponsored Kansas Honors Program events to honor the top 10 percent of Kansas high school seniors.
