LAWRENCE -- Eight University of Kansas faculty members were recognized for their service to graduate students during a ceremony May 7 in the Kansas Room of the Kansas Union.
The Graduate and Professional Association, along with the Graduate School Dean's Office and the Office of the Chancellor, presented the GPA Outstanding Mentor Awards to seven professors and a library director.
Faculty were nominated by graduate students from participating schools on the Lawrence campus. This year's winners are:
Bryan Foster, assistant professor of ecology and evolutionary biology, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
Holly L. Storkel, assistant professor of speech, language and hearing, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
Allan H. Pasco, Hall professor of French and Italian, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
Joyce McCray Pearson, director of the law library, School of Law
Trung van Nguyen, associate professor of chemical and petroleum engineering, School of Engineering
Thomas McDonald, associate dean of social welfare, School of Social Welfare
Eva M. Horn, associate professor of special education, School of Education
James F. Daugherty, associate professor of music and dance, School of Fine Arts
Each award winner received a certificate and $100.
Pasco was selected from among the nominees to receive the Chancellor's Outstanding Mentor Award. He received $500 and a plaque for this distinction.
During the ceremony, GPA also recognized the participants of the KU/K-State Graduate Student Research Summit.
