KU to honor 68 high school seniors in Junction City; chancellor to speak

LAWRENCE -- Students from eight Kansas high schools will be honored Tuesday, Nov. 9, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.

A total of 68 seniors from Geary and Dickinson county high schools and White City High School in Morris County will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 7:30 p.m. program at the Junction City Municipal Building.

Honorees' names are listed below.

KU Chancellor Robert Hemenway will speak. Kansas Alumni Association representative Jennifer Sanner, senior vice president of communications and editor of Kansas Alumni Magazine, is in charge of award presentations.

The dinner program will cost parents and alumni $12.50 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.

Mark Edwards and Alicia Montgomery, Junction City, will be site coordinators. Julie Hamel, Chapman, will be the counties' coordinator for alumni; and Sue and Todd Frieze, Chapman, will be the counties' coordinators for parents and students.

The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 89,875 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
