KU to honor 198 high school seniors from Shawnee County in Topeka on Nov. 9

LAWRENCE -- Students from 10 Shawnee County high schools will be honored Tuesday, Nov. 9, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.

A total of 198 seniors will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 6:30 p.m. program at the Holiday Inn Holidome, 605 S.W. Fairlawn, Topeka.

Honorees' names are listed below.

Steven Hedden, dean of the School of Fine Arts, will speak. Kansas Alumni Association representative Del Shankel, interim president and CEO, is in charge of award presentations.

The dinner program will cost parents and alumni $13 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.

Michael and Marcia Cassidy, Topeka, will be the site and Shawnee County coordinators.

The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 89,875 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
