LAWRENCE -- Rep. Jerry Moran, R-Kan., will be at the University of Kansas Tuesday, Oct. 19, to learn about research activities in the Transportation Research Institute at the KU School of Engineering.
Moran's visit will include a meeting with Dean of Engineering Stuart Bell, a brief overview of the Transportation Research Institute (TRI) and a tour of the engineering school's facilities and labs. Researchers will be on hand to discuss their work. Moran is particularly interested in how TRI efforts benefit the state of Kansas and the 1st District he represents.
The TRI overview and projects tour begin at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Dean's Office Suite of Eaton Hall, 1520 W. 15th Street. His visit is scheduled to end shortly after 10 a.m. The media are welcome.
About the Transportation Research Institute
This new venture seeks to build on the strengths of KU research efforts by fostering crossdisciplinary inquiry into emerging issues that have broad societal significance, such as highways, flight controls, alternative fuels and urban planning. The TRI focuses on current and future research activities primarily aimed at public transportation design, evaluation and application as an integrated, functional process.
KU research labs and institutes that collaborate under the TRI umbrella include the Flight Research Lab, the Infrastructure Research Institute, the Intelligent Systems and Automation Laboratory, the Energy Research Institute and the Policy Research Institute.
