LAWRENCE -- The University of Kansas will host the 13th annual Heart of America Marching Festival Saturday, Oct. 23, at Memorial Stadium.
Seventeen of the 32 Kansas 6A high school bands -- including Lawrence High School and Lawrence Free State High School -- will perform, as will several Kansas 5A and 4A bands and bands from Missouri. A panel of experts will evaluate the bands on marching, playing and general effect.
The festival performances will begin at 12:45 p.m., and the Marching Jayhawks will cap off the evening with a performance at 9 p.m.
The festival is sponsored by the KU Bands and the Northeast District of the Kansas Music Educators Association. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students and $1 for children.
