LAWRENCE -- The University of Kansas' homecoming block party and pep rally will begin at 6 p.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 7, in the Student Recreation Fitness Center, near 17th and Maine streets.
Dean of Students Richard Johnson said inclement weather forced university officials to make a venue change from South Park, 11th and Massachusetts streets, to the recreation center. Free parking will be available in lots surrounding the center.
Block party events will include Spirit Sing competition finals and the announcement of the winner of the "Jayhawk Idol" competition. The winner will sing the national anthem and the school song at the football game against Colorado Nov. 6.
The pep rally will feature Football Coach Mark Mangino and the Jayhawk team captains, KU's Spirit Squad, the KU Dance Team and the KU Marching Band.
This year's homecoming theme is "Hawktoberfest: Home Is Where the Hawk Is."
