KU to honor 120 high school seniors in El Dorado on Sept. 27

LAWRENCE -- Students from 15 Kansas high schools will be honored Monday, Sept. 27, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.

A total of 120 seniors from Butler, Elk and Greenwood county high schools, will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a program at 6:30 p.m. at the Student Union Cafeteria of Butler County Community College, 901 S. Haverhill, El Dorado.

Honorees' names are listed below.

William Crowe, Spencer Librarian at the Spencer Research Library, will speak. Kansas Alumni Association representative Kirk Cerny, senior vice president for membership services of the Kansas Honors Program, is in charge of award presentations.

The dinner program will cost parents and alumni $12 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.

Mike Coash, El Dorado, will be the site coordinator. Scott Ennis, El Dorado, will be the Butler County coordinator; and Joan Gryder and Jerry Handley, both of Eureka, will be the Elk/Greenwood County coordinators.

The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. It has honored 89, 875 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
