KU to honor 51 high school seniors from 9 counties in Goodland on April 20
LAWRENCE -- Students from 17 Kansas high schools will be honored Wednesday, April 20, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.
A total of 51 seniors from Cheyenne, Decatur, Gove, Logan, Rawlins, Sheridan, Sherman, Thomas and Wallace county high schools will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 5:30 p.m. (mountain time) program at the Goodland Elks Lodge, 1523 Arcade St., Goodland.
Honorees are listed below.
Kevin Boatright, associate executive vice chancellor for external affairs, will speak. Kansas Alumni Association representative Carolyn Barnes, director of the Kansas Honors Program, is in charge of award presentations.
The dinner program will cost parents and alumni $13 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.
Perry and Janet Warren, Goodland, will serve as the site and Sherman County coordinators; Wade Park, Oakley, as the Gove, Logan and Sheridan county coordinator; Mike and Brenda Day, St. Francis, as the Cheyenne County coordinators; Kurt Vollertsen, Oberlin, as the Decatur County coordinator; Charles and Connie Peckham, Atwood, as the Rawlins County coordinators; and Sharon Steele, Colby, as the Thomas and Wallace county coordinators.
The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 92,630 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
