KU to honor 72 high school seniors in Dodge City on Feb. 23

LAWRENCE -- Students from 17 Kansas high schools will be honored Wednesday, Feb. 23, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.

A total of 72 seniors from Clark, Comanche, Ford, Gray, Hodgeman, Kiowa, Meade and Ness county high schools will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 6:30 p.m. program at the Knights of Columbus, 800 W. Frontview, Dodge City.

Honorees are listed below.

Robert F. Weaver, associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, will speak. Kansas Alumni Association representative Kevin Corbett, president and CEO, is in charge of award presentations.

The dinner program will cost parents and alumni $13 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.

Melaney Vogel, Dodge City, will serve as the site and Ford County coordinator; Robert and Sally McNickle, Ashland, as the Clark County coordinators; Liz Ballard, Haviland, as the Comanche and Kiowa counties coordinator; Philip and Patricia Ridenour, Cimarron, as the Gray County coordinators; Mary Joanne Sorem, Jetmore, as the Hodgeman County coordinator; Lynn Chance, Fowler, as the Meade County coordinator; and John P. Clarke, Ness City, as the Ness County coordinator.

The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 92,630 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
