KU to honor 37 high school seniors in Belleville on Feb. 7

LAWRENCE -- Students from 12 Kansas high schools will be honored Monday, Feb. 7, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.

A total of 37 seniors, seniors from Cloud, Jewell, Mitchell and Republic county high schools, will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at at 6:30 p.m. program at the Harvester Room, 1309 18th St., Belleville.

Honorees are listed below.

Marlesa Roney, KU vice provost for student success, will speak. Kansas Alumni Association representative Chris Lazzarino, associate editor of the Kansas Alumni magazine, is in charge of award presentations.

The dinner program will cost parents and alumni $13 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.

Marilyn Haase, Belleville, will serve as the site and Republic County coordinator; Michele Heidrick, Beloit, will serve as the Mitchell County coordinator; Nicole Palmquist, Concordia, will serve as the Cloud County coordinator; and Cathy Dauner, Mankato, will serve as the Jewell County coordinator.

The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 92,630 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
