Dodge City area KU alumni to welcome new Jayhawks with July 26 sendoff

LAWRENCE -- Recent graduates of high schools and colleges in Ford and surrounding counties planning to attend the University of Kansas this fall will be welcomed to the KU family by the Kansas Alumni Association during a Senior Sendoff at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, at the Mariah Hills Golf Course, 1800 Mattdown Lane, Dodge City.

The Alumni Association is coordinating the sendoff event with chapter leaders in Dodge City to provide more than 30 new KU students and their parents an opportunity not only to meet one another but also to meet other KU students and alumni from Clark, Comanche, Edwards, Ford, Gray, Hodgeman, Kiowa and Meade counties.

Current KU students have been invited to share their experiences and to serve as mentors after the freshmen arrive in Lawrence. KU's fall term begins Aug. 18. Freshmen arrive on campus Aug. 14 for orientation and enrollment activities.

The sendoff will include grilled picnic fare, and each student will receive a KU T-shirt. Entering freshmen and their parents and returning KU students may attend as guests of the Kansas Alumni Association. There is a $6 charge for KU alumni to attend.

Bill Bunyan of Dodge City, local chapter leader, is helping coordinate the event. Alumni Association representatives Mike Davis, senior vice president for alumni programs, and Heath Peterson, director of Kansas chapter development, also will attend.
