KU to honor high school seniors from Cowley, Chautauqua counties on Sept. 28

LAWRENCE -- Students from seven Kansas high schools will be honored Wednesday, Sept. 28, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.

A total of 52 seniors, seniors from high schools in Cowley and Chautauqua counties, will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 6:30 p.m. dinner program at Cowley County Community College Brown Center, Wright Room, 125 S. Second St., Arkansas City.

Honorees' names are listed below.

William R. "Bill" Docking, president of the Union State Bank in Arkansas City, former member of the Kansas Board of Regents and a KU alumnus, will speak. Kansas Alumni Association representative Jennifer Alderdice, director of student programs, is in charge of award presentations.

The dinner program will cost parents and alumni $12 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.

Lucy Herlocker Freeman and Dave Andreas of Winfield, and William R. Docking and Vicki Webb of Arkansas City will serve as the Cowley County coordinators. Tim Hills, Sedan, will serve as the Chautauqua County coordinator.

The KU Endowment Association and the Kansas Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 95,794 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes throughout the State of Kansas.
